Natural Medicine.

The foundation of Naturopathic medicine is based on the philosophy of Vis Medicatrix Naturae, ’the healing power of nature’. This was a phrase coined by Hippocrates (460-370 BC) who was specific in his opposition to harsh medication, drugs and unnecessary meddling by the physician. He instructed his students to follow nature and do no harm to their patients.

 The modern concept that physicians must fight disease rather than cooperate with nature to eliminate it, has divided medicine into two fields, allopathic and naturopathic. The philosophy of the naturopathic physician centres on the study of health and how to promote it, rather than the study of disease and how to suppress it. Naturopathy arouses, assists and cooperates with the body’s healing forces by using herbal extracts , tinctures, supplements, natural healing methods and assisting the cleansing and eliminating processes of the body.

 The body, like the tree, has roots, trunk, branches and leaves. Without the soil, correct nutrients, sufficient light and water, the leaves will not flourish. There is no drug that will restore cell normality when malfunction has arisen from disease. This can only be achieved by establishing normal biochemistry in the body with the help of nature.

 When the body is functioning optimally, we are in a state of homeostasis. This means that all the internal systems of the body are maintained in equilibrium despite variations in external factors. Homeostasis is maintained by the body’s self-regulating, self-healing and self-repairing ability provided that the diet is ideal. If not, it will fail to supply the host of essential nutrients like enzymes and antioxidants, necessary for these functions and for protection against end products such as free radicals and waste. When homeostasis is disturbed, disease results, and begins within individual cells that, in turn, make up specific tissues and organs. When a cell’s normal regulating and communication processes are altered, the disease process begins. This process cannot be reversed by allopathic drugs. The side effects of these drugs can also lead to many other symptoms which are then treated with more drugs, and so the never ending pattern repeats itself over and over again. Naturopathy seeks to build a healthy body, mind and spirit. It combats disease by altering the internal and external environment and by natural interventionist methods if necessary.

 Naturopathy;

 Addresses the cause and not the symptom.

 Treats all chronic and acute and diseases.

 Will correct pharmaceutical-induced nutritional deficiencies.

Brings the body back to homeostasis.

We all have a choice as far as our health is concerned. You can either complain about your condition and carry on treating the symptom, or, take a step forward by taking charge of your own health and regaining your body’s homeostasis.
